Dear Parents and Students,

        Welcome to our new page!  I apologize for taking so long, but I hope it is worth the wait.  Mrs. Pollitt and I appreciate your patience as we combine our efforts to keep you better informed.  As you will see, we have reserved the first section for any special news reminders we may have for our eighth grade homerooms.  Then you will find eighth grade academic news, which will include quiz, test and project information.  (Mrs. Pollitt’s math and homeroom religion class work/assignments followed by Mrs. Fair’s literature, vocabulary and homeroom religion class work/assignments.)  Mrs. Pollitt’s work will be updated at the end of each Monday, unless otherwise noted.  Mrs. Fair’s information will be updated on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of each week (also unless otherwise noted).  The seventh grade classes’ information will follow the eighth grades.

        If you should need to reach us, you may do so by calling the school office during regular business hours, or you may contact us through our school email.  We will respond within 24 hours or at our earliest opportunity.

        We feel very blessed to be working with our students and thank you all for the confidence you place in us by sending your children here for their academic and spiritual education.  We appreciate your support and prayers for a successful school year.

MATHEMATICS AND ALGEBRA

 

Eighth grade math is divided into sections according to student readiness and performance.  There are two sections of Algebra and one section of eighth grade math.  Class assignments and quiz or test dates are listed below according to that information.

Literature and Vocabulary Studies –

Eighth Grade

 

Mrs. Fair’s literature classes are divided according to students’ reading performance on standardized tests and prior classroom performance.  While some standard instruction applies to all students, there is individual differentiation depending upon each student and his or her effort.  Ample opportunities are provided for physical, as well as mental, reading response activities.  Students are often permitted to work with partners or in small groups to improve comprehension and critical thinking skills.  Finally, students are asked to make connections between what they read or learn with what they already know or have experienced in their own lives.  The most notable changes from seventh to eighth grade literature class include the following: the expectation of greater independent thought and increased individual student responsibility, the more formal approach to vocabulary study, and the strong emphasis on class participation.  All are VERY important aspects of this course and they directly affect preparation for high school.

Seventh Grade Literature is divided into three sections:  Period 1 (Yellow Group), Period 5 (Orange Group) and Period 6 (Red Group). 

 

All three sections are currently reading the same stories because of the shared unit we are covering. Although they read the same material, all students are working with that material according to individual reading skill levels and performance. 

This week students read three poems that followed the theme of "Finding Oneself."  We will begin a new short story on Monday.
